Photos and Lyrics

She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don't mind, but what do you mean I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round
She said I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the round

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth

( Lyrics : Billie Jean - Michael Jackson )

Photo of the Day

Little by little,
We gave you everything
You ever dreamed of
Little by little
The wheels of your life
Have slowly fallen off
Little by little
You had to give it all in all your life
And all the time I just ask myself why
You're really here

Why am I really here?
Why am I really here?

Photos of the Day

These are a few snatches of  what i have been doing over the last few days.
( This is mostly the least exciting stuff... for the rest I was having too much fun to click any photos!)

Waiting in line and observing numerous shoes.

Seeing the softest dough being turned into the yummiest butter naans.

Gorging on street food.

Making my way through some of the books I wanted to read.

Driving home at twilight

Currently crushing

I love everything about this room.. the quirky curtains, the embroidered pillows which add a touch of whimsy, the bright turquoise wall, the pop of colour in the yellow vase, the windows throwing in lovely light and the oh so comfortable looking rocking chair.
Its the perfect summer room!

I love designing modernistic and minimalistic spaces but hen it comes to picturing a room for myself, the immediate image that springs to mind is a room full of colour filled with all sorts of unique objects lovingly collected from all over.

Photo of the Day : The Dastkar exhibition

I went to the Dastkar Exhibition that was held at the Coomaraswami Hall last wekk. WHat greeted me were riots of colour, beautiful craftmenship and one of a kind handcrafted pieces. This exhibition is held annually all over India and if you mustn't miss the chance to visit it. There is so much variety to choose from.. from household knick knacls to beautiful clothes, jewellery and bags.
The best part? There are no middlemen involved and the profits go directly to the artists and craftsmen ! :)
I thought I would share some of the photos with you!

Photo of the Day :Holiday Season

I'm off on Holiday. I reached the vibrant city of Delhi today and was greeted by a lovely cloudy sky.
Delhi obviously likes me as it then proceeded to make my day by showering me with the drizzling rain throughout the day. I'm looking forward to spending the next 10 days or so spending much deserved quality time with family, taking in the sights and sounds of this beautiful city, going on photo walks, eating scrumptious food ( which I have already started on!) and doing some shopping!

Hope you have a good day :)

Re-invention

As you may have noticed, the layout of this blog has changed a little bit. This was primarily done as the photos that I uploaded were too small as a result of which many of the smaller intricate details were lost.
By changing things around ( which took a good 2 hours!) I finally managed to achieve a layout which I like. i would love to hear what you think about the changes..

Photo of the Day :

Today my life seems to filled with all the shades of grey.

And since I am a person who adores colour, this isnt a very good sign.

"No matter how bitter things become for me, personally economically, I would never allow myself to be destroyed from within. I would sustain all kinds of disappointment without ceasing to believe, to hope, to love. I would never yield to the temptation of pessimism, the ease of despair or withdrawal."

Fifteen Minutes : Martha Graham

When I opened Google today I found this wonderful animation by Ryan Woodward in honour of Martha Graham.

The animated illustration was so beautiful that it made me curious to find out more... And what I found out was truly inspiring.

So who was Martha Graham exactly?

( from here )

She was the pioneer of Contemporary dance but more importantly she was a woman who lived her passions and fearlessly followed her dreams, defying critics to dance on stage till she was 76 years old.

These are a few interesting facts that I read about her that I thought might inspire some of you...

  • She was the first dancer ever to perform at the White House.

  • She was the first dancer ever to travel abroad as a cultural ambassador, and the first dancer ever to receive the highest civilian award of the USA: the Presidential Medal of Freedom

  • . In her lifetime she received honors ranging from the Key to the City of Paris to Japan's Imperial Order of the Precious Crown

  • She said, "I have spent all my life with dance and being a dancer. It's permitting life to use you in a very intense way. Sometimes it is not pleasant. Sometimes it is fearful. But nevertheless it is inevitable."

  • Graham's dance style is based upon contraction and release of the body. She despised the term "modern dance" and preferred "contemporary dance". She thought the concept of what was "modern" was constantly changing and was thus inexact as a definition.

  • For a majority of her life Graham resisted the recording of her dances and would not allow them to be filmed or photographed. She believed the performances should exist only live on the stage and in no other form. At one point she even burned volumes of her diaries and notes to prevent them from being seen.

  • In her autobiography, Blood Memory she wrote: "It wasn't until years after I had relinquished a ballet that I could bear to watch someone else dance it. I believe in never looking back, never indulging in nostalgia, or reminiscing. Yet how can you avoid it when you look on stage and see a dancer made up to look as you did thirty years ago, dancing a ballet you created with someone you were then deeply in love with, your husband? I think that is a circle of hell Dante omitted."

  • "When I stopped dancing] I had lost my will to live. I stayed home alone, ate very little, and drank too much and brooded. My face was ruined, and people say I looked odd, which I agreed with. Finally my system just gave in. I was in the hospital for a long time, much of it in a coma."

  • Graham not only survived her hospital stay but she rallied. In 1972 she quit drinking, returned to her studio, reorganized her company and went on to choreograph ten new ballets and many revivals

  • In 1998, Time listed her as the "Dancer of the Century" and as one of the most important people of the 20th century.

  • The most requested dance materials at the New York Public Library have to do with the work of Martha Graham

What an inspiring lady! And who knew i would come across this by a just opening Google and wondering about the illustration!
