A Little Less Conversation

"A Little Less Conversation " is a compilation of all the things ( big or small ) that seem to inspire me. You know them... the ones that just make you want curl up in a corner, make yourself comfy as you soak in how wonderful they truly are!

For today's " A Little Less Conversation " i have two special surprises for you!

The idea behind http://thingsweforget.blogspot.com/ is both simple and inspiring. The person behind the blog writes down little things that we tend to forget in our daily life and sticks hem around public spaces in Singapore. What a great idea. what makes it even more special is all the thought and care that is put behind every post it. Do go check it out!

The second is the inspiring yin xiuzhen...Yin's latest "Portable Cities " project comprises of models of various cities in old suitcases made from the used clothes of residents of those cities. Definately worth seeing!

Photo (s) of the Day: Adventure time!

Every Sunday the road going from Churchgate Station to the Fashion Street  cross roads is filled with vendors carrying all sorts of random items...from plastic files and folders to jeans in all shapes and size to handkerchiefs, soft toys and lots of little eats to fake deodorants! And these are just the things that i can remember of the top of my head. I've always wanted to go take a stroll down that road and see the numerous people who come and shop there! Well i finally did... and these are the results!

I managed to get a surprisingly large number of portrait shots.I say surprising because it was so rushed and crowded. There were people jostling in all directions that I had just about a second to take most of these photos. It was a wonder that most of my photographs weren't blurry!

So i shall leave you with the many people and things i saw...

Such a gentle and shy face.. which is such a contrast to that moustache!

Steaming hot channa being made.. full of spice and buttery goodness ! mmmm :)

An old Parsi gentlemen trying to find some answers in while peering into the old well...

Random numbers written on a stone wall of a building.
Architecture is so much more interesting when there's a story behind it.
I'm going to try and find out what it means!

Love the fall colours seen in this twisted, rusted barbed wire.
It lends such a beautiful contrast to the elegant stone facade behind.

A book which class old school font!

A wise old statue studying the people passing below.

The signboard of a shop asking for God's blessings and hanging a haar for good luck :)

Switchboards and buttons...
Its funny how most clothes in little stalls are hung right next to the light switches.
i guess its the extraordinary in the ordinary!

The owner of a sugar cane stall enjoying his evening cigarette!

Making a living and looking grand while doing it!

You can see how protective he his about his little sister on his face!

The common man will agree to join you on a walk.
But only if you ask very nicely.

This thought behind this photograph:
I was wondering about the reasons that make us hold back and prevent us from achieving everything we want to.
So many of us jail ourselves behind our inhibitions .
( including me )

Have you ever seen a tree look so grand?

September Surprise!

Hello all! I have a surprise in store for you! September in Mumbai is even more beautiful than August . ( I'm not entirely sure how that is even possible considering August is a pretty fabulous month here.. what with all the glistening raindrops, clean roads and beautiful sunsets that look different every two minutes )
Anyways.. the last two weeks have been filling me with inspiration.. i started a colour journal ( I will definitely share the details of that at the month end) and managed to think of three really cool diy projects.

Luckily for you... one of them also acts as present for you!
Presenting the September calender.
The background in an ink painting that i did with the colours that seem to be filling up September!

All you need to do is click on the image above..a larger version will open in a new window save it and print it it out on an A 4 sheet.
Alternatively, you can just right click on the above image and save it but then you might not get the full sized calender!
It would be a handy to stick inside a notebook or board.. it"ll add some colour and maybe you can cross of the days on it if you have something special coming up!
Enjoy.. and do let me know what you think!

Photo of the day : let the festivities begin!

I love this time of the year! it heralds the start of the festive season... the rains are beginning to stop their non stop downpour , the air is cool but not humid and on most evenings there's a soft breeze flowing as you take a walk...
Ganesh Chaturti celebrations are in full gear.. its one of my favourite festivals. It's always a delight to see the city come alive with colour, lights and dancing people thronging the streets!
I thought i would share some of the joy with you below!

There is so much love and care put into all the decorations.. it truly is a feast for the eyes!
And i love how the end of the monsoons is heralded by bright summer colours!

I dont know about the rest of you but I'll be taking out a few moments each day to savour the last bit of rain before it dries up.. you may be sick of it now, but trust me you'll be longing for it once the october heat hits!

Photo (s) of the Day : Watching the world go by

I hesitantly look some time off this weekend... and boy, am I glad I did!
Below are a few of the many lovely moments that i thought i would share with you...

1. Little boys who are so excited with all the wonder that the festivities bring , that they don't quite know where to look!

2. A Ganpati Mandap made of umbrellas!

3. A young boy taking a break from all the festive dancing!

4. The Swiss Cheese Gardens.. an adorable resteraunt situated in ABC farms, Pune. The food is heavenly and the decor cosy. Highly highly recommended!

5. Grabbing precious moments of solitude, thanking God for all the blessings he's showered on us.

6. Cracking the reason why Indians are so good with science...
Where else will you find men taking physics into their own hands and defying all rules of gravity and inertia?

7. Organic lights with gentle curves that bestow a soft light to any corner of the room.

The Bandra Worli sea link .
This is taken from the Worli sea face!
There's just something about the various shades of grey and black that this photo expresses that makes me want to sing! It catches the vitality in the sunset air perfectly! :)

Photo of the Day

This is an ode to the beautiful city we reside in. I wont say live because that would be short selling it. This city does so much more.... it makes you feel alive.
I had a bit of a setback in my college life today. I must be growing up a little since i accepted it far better than i ever thought was possible. Instead of breaking down and getting disheartened I decided to accept my share of blame for what happened and look at what i can do to turn the situation around. And it was a blessing in disguise because I am going to take this oppurtunity to pause and reflect and look back at the things that i should have done differently this past year and learn from my mistakes.
As i was pondering on the way forward i decided to get out of the house and go take a walk to clear my head. And that's where the magic of the city overtakes you. It sneaks up to you when you're down and creeps into your pores and makes itself comfortable while it inspires you. There's so much to see on a simple evening walk...cars whizzing by, old people resolutely exercising, dogs dragging their owners. This city invites you to take a piece of it and call it your own, to mould bits of it and define it as yours.
I saw an old gentleman who was carrying an ancient radio on his arm and singing loudly to the music it blared. I guess you're never too old to feel alive. I realised that at the end of the day it doesn't matter what everyone says.. what matters is that you should remain true to yourself.
So, on this Monday, the 6th of September I'm making a new start.

Here's to following your own heart.
Here's to standing out in the crowd.

Have an invigorating week : )
